The association in Italy and in the world
Slow Food is an international non-profit organization that counts 100,000 members, volunteers and supporters in 150 countries, 1500 Pipelines, local offices, of which 17 in Emilia Romagna, and a network of 2000 small producers of quality community.
Founded by Carlo Petrini in 1986, Slow Food works to promote interest related to food as a carrier of pleasure, culture, traditions, identity and lifestyle, as well as food, respectful of the territories and traditions.
The motto of Slow Food is good, clean and fair. Three adjectives that define the characteristics that must have the food in an elementary way. Good for its organoleptic quality, clean food is produced respecting the environment, ie the right to comply with the concepts of social justice both during production and marketing stages.
Slow Food through its network of people active on the local, national and international:
coordinates and conducts research projects, cataloging and promotion for the safeguarding food biodiversity
It promotes initiatives for the development of environmentally friendly forms of agriculture
preserves and enhances the historical and cultural identity of a territory to which it binds a particular production, particularly through the establishment of Presidia for the defense of biodiversity
It develops relationships, activities and initiatives with and among food communities, formed by all the actors in the production and processing of food
It promotes the reduction of the distribution chain, the direct relationship between producer and co-producer, and the organization of food and wine tourism activities
guide to proper food culture through sensory education.
