Founded in 2000, the Oil of the Sassi is a family business that deals with production, processing and marketing of extra virgin olive oil and is located in the historic city of Matera, European Capital of Culture in 2019, and world famous for Sassi, who became in 1993 UNESCO World Heritage Site. This company, with humility, commitment and great spirit of sacrifice, over the years has been able to grow in small steps without forgetting the importance of practicing a genuine and healthy crop in fully respecting the environment.
The company's history is closely linked to the initiative of its founder Nicola Vitale, who was able to convey to his sons Cosimo and Vitalba the passion for the earth and for one of its most noble and important products extra virgin olive oil. After inheriting and purchased land in the countryside of Matera, planted with arable, in 1996 Nicholas and his wife Angela decided to change their culture and plant a grove of about 4000 plants Ogliarola Bradano, Coratina, Frantoio, Leccino and Carolea. After only three years, thanks to continuing education on the subject, to the constant and ever growing passion of the entire family, come the first fruits, so that the Company places his extra virgin, branded "the oil Sassi ", on the first place in the Regional Competition Olivarum of the National Olive Back in Basilicata.
After this amazing achievement and firmly believing in the potential of this project, the Vitale family, who had started from the idea of practicing the cultivation of olive trees and sell simply to third parties the olives produced, with time, not only it has increased the production of extra virgin olive oil and its commercialization, but with the purchase of a mill was able to finally get to close the entire production cycle of olive oil within the company itself. In fact, after having entrusted for years to an external mill processing of their olives, in 2014 Cosimo Vitale, current owner of the brand "the oil of the Stones" acquires a historic mill materano could then follow and treat personally the important and delicate phase processing of their olives.
Continuing in the years to pay constant attention to every detail throughout the manufacturing cycle, the company was able to achieve excellent results providing a growing number of customers an extra virgin olive oil of superior quality with excellent chemical and organoleptic parameters.
The present location of the oil mill and packaging workshop is a factory outlet where you can taste their extra virgin olive oil, thanks to an excellent method of storage, preserves all year round flavors and tastes like it was just crushed.
